Our drainage work

Each of these has its own page with more detail.

Drains dug and laid

New drains

Foul and rainwater drains for extensions, new builds, garages and outbuildings, laid to the right falls with inspection chambers so they can be rodded.

Collapsed and broken drains

Old clay pipes crack, joints open up and roots get in. Where relining will not do, we dig out the broken section and put in new pipe.

CCTV drain surveys

A camera pushed down the pipe shows exactly where it is cracked, blocked or full of roots, and how deep it is, before anyone digs.

No-dig drain relining

A cracked pipe lined from the inside with a new resin lining, through the existing manholes. No digging up the drive or the garden.

New sewer connections

A new drain connected into the public sewer, with the water company's permission and to their rules.

Surface water drainage

Channel drains across drives, gullies, and rainwater pipes taken to a soakaway or the right drain.

Why a groundworker for drains?

A drain unblocking firm can jet a pipe and put a camera down it. If the pipe has collapsed, they have to send someone else to dig it up.

We jet it, survey it with our camera, reline it if that will do, and if it will not, dig it up and replace it ourselves with our own diggers, from a 1 tonne micro digger for back gardens upwards. One firm, start to finish.

Questions people ask

Who is responsible for my drain?

The pipe that only serves your house, inside your boundary, is yours. Once it joins a neighbour's pipe or leaves your land, it is usually the water company's, and they repair it for free. We can tell you which part is which when we look.

What is the difference between foul and surface water drains?

Foul drains carry toilet, sink, shower and washing machine waste to the sewer. Surface water drains carry rain from roofs and drives, to a soakaway or a separate rainwater sewer. They must not be mixed: rainwater in a foul drain can overload it, and foul water in a rainwater drain pollutes rivers.

How do I know if my drain has collapsed?

Drains that keep blocking in the same place, a bad smell outside, damp patches or a dip in the lawn or drive over the pipe, or rats in the garden. Jetting clears a blockage but cannot fix a broken pipe, so if it keeps coming back, a CCTV survey will show what is wrong.

Can a broken drain be fixed without digging?

Often, yes. If the pipe is cracked or has open joints but has not fully collapsed, it can be relined from the inside through the manholes. If it has collapsed or sunk, it has to be dug up and replaced. The CCTV survey tells us which.

Can I connect a new drain to the sewer?

Only with the water company's permission. You apply to them first, and the connection has to be made to their standards. Building control also checks new drains under the Building Regulations.

Do you empty septic tanks?

No. We install, replace and repair septic tanks and treatment plants, but we do not empty them. A tanker firm does that.

Do you work for builders and developers?

Yes. We lay drainage on new builds, extensions and commercial sites, foul and surface water, with our own plant and operators.
